The angle of the auricle with the skull is greater than normal or the insufficient development of the characteristic folds of the ear results in a prominent ear. It is not uncommon for prominent ear deformity to cause social and psychological problems, and this is more apparent in children. Therefore, it is convenient to perform the surgery in childhood, preferably before starting school. Since the ear reaches 90% of its adult size by the age of 6, it is not necessary to wait until adulthood for surgery. However, the surgery can also be performed on adults. There is a small risk of angle change in the ears after surgery. Since this risk increases with age, it is much more appropriate to have surgery in childhood.

Prominent ear surgery - otoplasty - is performed with an incision behind the ear. The folds of the ears are created with surgical sutures and the angle with the skull is reduced. Since all the incisions and stitches are made behind the ear, the scars are not visible. The operation lasts from 1 to 1.5 hours. An elastic bandage is used for 1 week after surgery. We recommend wearing a tennis bandage for 2-3 weeks and then wearing a bandage at night for the next 4-6 weeks.
