PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)
PRP, short for Platelet Rich Plasma, is a treatment derived from your own blood and widely used in medicine for both orthopedic and cosmetic purposes. But what makes platelets so valuable? They contain numerous growth factors and proteins that play a key role in tissue repair and regeneration.
During a PRP treatment, controlled micro-injuries are created in aging or damaged skin, and a concentrated dose of platelets is applied to the area. The released growth factors and healing proteins improve skin quality, resulting in a younger, healthier, and more radiant appearance.
In plastic surgery, PRP is commonly used for:
It can be used alone for scar reduction and skin rejuvenation or in combination with supportive techniques like dermarollers. Its effectiveness in preventing hair loss and enhancing hair quality has been supported by numerous scientific studies.
The procedure is simple: About 8–10 cc of your blood is collected and processed to obtain PRP, which is then injected into the skin using very fine needles. The procedure takes only a few minutes, and topical anesthetic creams are usually sufficient. If combined with dermaroller treatment, mild intravenous anesthetics may be required.
After the procedure, mild redness may occur but usually resolves within 24 hours. Depending on the treatment area, 3–4 sessions spaced 2–3 weeks apart, followed by a maintenance session at 6 months, are typically sufficient.
Since PRP is derived entirely from your own blood, it is a safe, reliable, and low-risk method with virtually no side effects or allergies.
